RESOLUTION # 12675, April 26, 1999

Body
WHEREAS, each year the Awards Committee of the Conservation Federation of Missouri selects an individual who has shown outstanding contributions in conservation management in Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, in 1998 the Committee chose for the first time a married couple, Arnold and Helen Meysenburg of Lee's Summit, to receive the prestigious award of Conservationists of the Year; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Meysenburg were recognized for the countless hours of work they have spent at the Lee's Summit Elementary School outdoor science center, and for Mr. Meysenburg's work on a highway beautification project at I-470 and U.S. 50; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Meysenburg take care of the outdoor science center during weekends in the spring and fall and during the summer months or at any time students are not around to maintain the center; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Meysenburg initiated several theme plots at the center, including the desert plot and the family plot; and,

WHEREAS, through the help of the Lee's Summit Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers, Mr. Meysenburg has beautified the area of I-470 and U.S. 50 by planting several thousand seedling trees, prairie grass, and wild flowers; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Meysenburg worked as a second grade teacher at Lee's Summit Elementary School until her retirement in 1994, and Mr. Meysenburg worked at AT&T until his retirement; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Meysenburg are to be commended for their tremendous efforts in making their community a more beautiful place to live in; therefore,
