Body
WHEREAS, Jackson County Legislator and former Kansas City Chiefs tight end Fred Arbanas will be inducted with the 56th Induction Class into the State of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony scheduled to be held in August 2012; and

WHEREAS, the 56th Induction Class was selected by a specially-formed Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Legends Task Force, comprised of a statewide, blue-ribbon group of sports journalists, college and professional sports officials, and former athletes and coaches; and,

WHEREAS, Fred was drafted out of Michigan State University in 1961 by the Dallas Texans, the team which later became the Kansas City Chiefs; and,

WHEREAS, Fred received All-Pro Honors with the Texans and the Chiefs from 1962 through 1968 and he was named by the Pro Football Hall of Fame as an All-Time All-Star American Football League Team Member; and,

WHEREAS, during his ten seasons with the Chiefs, Fred was a favorite passing target of Chief's quarterback Len Dawson, who describes Fred as a guy who came to play every down; and,

WHEREAS, Fred was known for his courageous play and determination on the field, becoming the driving force behind one of the greatest teams in the history of the American Football League; and,

WHEREAS, Fred was inducted into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame in 1973 and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1997; and,

WHEREAS, Fred is also a member of the All-Time Kansas City Chiefs 25th Anniversary Dream Team and was an instrumental force behind taking the team to Super Bowl I and the team's win in Super Bowl IV in 1970; and,
