Body
WHEREAS for the past 35 years, Newhouse has provided services to this community and specifically the urban core of Kansas City and the Old Northeast area; and,

WHEREAS Newhouse was Kansas City's first shelter for battered women and their children; and,

WHEREAS Newhouse provides more than 17,000 nights free from violence to more than 650 women and their children each year; and,

WHEREAS Newhouse, in addition to safe shelter, provides a variety of services, including domestic violence education, substance abuse therapy, mental health therapy, court advocacy, and employment and education services; and,

WHEREAS children are an important part of the programs provided at Newhouse and are afforded the care and services essential to their well-being; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby commends Newhouse, its Board of Directors, staff, and stakeholders, for 35 years of commitment and dedication to and advocacy for women and children in this community, for their continuing efforts to end domestic violence in this community, and for improving the quality of life of those seeking safe shelter; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature extends its support to the continuation of this invaluable program until violence in our community is no longer a concern.



Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
