Body
WHEREAS, in 1916, twenty-nine children came to Mrs. Thomas M. Spofford's home in Kansas City, which she had donated to be used as an orphanage; and,
WHEREAS, ninety-five years later, Spofford is a leading provider of preventative and therapeutic treatment services for children, providing hope and healing to children suffering from abuse, neglect, and mental illness; and,
WHEREAS, Spofford began offering treatment to children with emotional problems in 1940, becoming the first agency in Kansas City to offer these services; and,
WHEREAS, Spofford is part of Cornerstones of Care, which serves as a consortium of agencies in Kansas City working together to provide support services for children and families; and,
WHEREAS, Spofford's services include providing residential treatment of children with severe emotional and behavioral disturbances, a school-based case management program to help children succeed socially and academically, a summer day camp program, and other specialized treatment programs; and,
WHEREAS, Spofford has an impressive record of success with ninety-six percent of residents making progress toward treatment goals and eighty-one percent of respondents expressing satisfaction with Spofford's programs; and,
WHEREAS, Spofford's mission to provide premier preventative and therapeutic services by connecting children, families, and the community to achieve their potential has made them a leader in helping the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Spofford on the occasion of its 95th anniv...
