AN ORDINANCE appropriating $2,800.00 from the unappropriated surplus of the 2007 Grant Fund in acceptance of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office's "You Drink and Drive. You Lose!" grant, awarded by the Missouri Safety Center and authorizing the County Executive to execute a contract with the Missouri Safety Center for the expenditure of grant funds.

Body
WHEREAS, the Missouri Safety Center has awarded the Sheriff's Office a "You Drink and Drive. You Lose!" enforcement grant in the amount of $2,800 for the period August 17, 2007, to September 3, 2007; and,
WHEREAS, in 2006, the Missouri Safety Center reported that Missouri suffered 270 DWI fatalities, with 5,157 injuries; and,
WHEREAS, from 2004 to 2006, Jackson County alcohol-related incidents included 58 fatalities and 3,091 accidents, which currently ranks Jackson County first in the state in alcohol-related accidents; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff recommends the use of the grant funds for reimbursement of overtime used for the "You Drink and Drive. You Lose!" enforcement program; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the grant funds in the appropriate spending account; now therefore
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation be made from the unappropriated surplus of the 2007 Grant Fund:
