AN ORDINANCE appropriating $505,479.00 from the undesignated fund balance of the 2026 Grant Fund in acceptance of the Sheriff’s Office’s DWI/Traffic Safety Unit Salary Grant awarded by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety and Traffic Division, and authorizing the Sheriff to execute a contract for the acceptance and expenditure of grant funds.

Body
WHEREAS, by Ordinance 6019 dated October 20, 2025, the Sheriff’s Office was awarded a grant in the amount of $473,774.00 by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety and Traffic Division, for the purpose of funding of unit salaries and automobiles; and,
WHEREAS, by Ordinance 5893 dated October 21, 2024, the Sheriff’s Office was awarded a grant in the amount of $283,841.00 by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety and Traffic Division, for the purpose of funding vehicle equipment; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff Office has been awarded grant funds by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety and Traffic Division for six-person DWI/Traffic Safety Unit and three new vehicles for use by the DWI Traffic Unit, for the period of October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027; and,
WHEREAS, this grant is subject to a local match in the amount of $505,479.00; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office recommends the acceptance of this award and the execution of a contract with the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety and Traffic Division; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the grant funds in the proper spending accounts; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following transfer and appropriation be and hereby are made:
