Body
WHEREAS, the Frey, Austin, and Hoard families will be celebrating their 18th Biennial Family Reunion on June 21 - 23, 2013; and,
WHEREAS, the theme for this celebration is "Remember the Past, Celebrate the Future"; and,
WHEREAS, the Frey, Austin, and Hoard families trace their roots to Frank Pebley and Fanny Austin, two slaves living in Clay County, Missouri in the early 1800's; and,
WHEREAS, the Hoard family and the Austin family were joined in the late 1800's when John Henry Hoard married a granddaughter of Frank and Fanny Austin; and,
WHEREAS, in 1900 the Austin, Hoard, and Frey families were united when Pearl Sylvester Hoard married D.J. Frey; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Frey traced her lineage to both the Austin and Hoard families by birth and to the Frey family by marriage, and it was her efforts that began the family tradition of the biennial reunion; and,
WHEREAS, the Frey, Austin, and Hoard family histories have been documented in an article titled, "Teaming Oral History with Documentary Research: The Enslaved Austins of Missouri's Little Dixie," featured in the June 2002 National Genealogical Society Quarterly; and,
WHEREAS, since its beginning the families have united for reunions in Kansas, Colorado, California, Missouri, Georgia, Mississippi, and Ontario, Canada; and,
WHEREAS, this special occasion will reunite the families, introduce their children to their unique heritage and history, and renew the ties that bind them together; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates the Frey, Austin, and Hoard families on the occasion of thei...
