RE: APPOINTMENTS TO THE JACKSON COUNTY ANIMAL WELFARE COMMITTEE
Title
I hereby make the following appointments to the Jackson County Animal Welfare Committee, effective October 1, 2013, for terms to expire September 30, 2015:

The Jackson County Animal Welfare Committee was established by the Amended Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement between Jackson County and the City of Independence for the operation of the Regional Animal Shelter, dated March 14, 2013. Under the Agreement, the Committee has the responsibility to: promote spay and neuter programs for household pets; support educational programs that promote the safety and welfare of domestic animals; hear complaints regarding abuse of or cruelty to animals when, in the Committee's opinion, such complaints have not been satisfactorily addressed by an applicable enforcement or animal welfare agency; and investigate charges of unethical treatment of animals. The Committee is advisory only in nature and shall provide policy guidance on animal welfare issues to the County Executive, County Legislature, and Mayor and City Council of the City of Independence.
