Body
WHEREAS, under the outstanding coaching of Doug McLagan and his staff, the Blue Springs High School 1996 varsity soccer team, the Wildcats, won the state Class 4A boys soccer championship, earning them the distinction of becoming the first non-St. Louis area team to win a state soccer title in Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, the Wildcats achieved their 1-0 victory by scoring the winning goal during the second half of the championship game against Christian Brothers College High; and,

WHEREAS, this was the second consecutive time the team traveled to the final four of the state tournament, having placed third in 1995; and,

WHEREAS, the members of the 1996 soccer team include Marc Saighman, Todd Barnhart, Brett Sutton, Scott Stracener, Ike Kennedy, Ricky Bambeneck, Nathan Boles, Kristian Jonsson, Sam Murphy, Ari Rodopoulos, Andy Ahring, Josh Thye, Jeff Tsevis, Mark Shaver, Jon Evans, Chris White, Brian Defoe, B. J. Demage, J. R. Barnes, Casey Fears, and David Steinweg; and,

WHEREAS, Coach McLagan is joined by assistant coaches Bob Rusert and Mike Jordan, and also by Sarah Kennedy, Manager, and Tom Crone, Athletic Director, in leading this exceptional group of young men to their successful regular season and championship victory; and,

WHEREAS, the Wildcats deserve the highest of praise and recognition for attaining the status of number one in their class in the State of Missouri, and for their hard work and good sportsmanship in reaching this distinction; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Blue Springs High School's 1996 varsity soccer team, the Wildcats, ...
