Body
WHEREAS, Sellie Truitt, a Kansas City resident for more than eighty years, has always has been dedicated to the betterment of local neighborhood communities; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Truitt became a neighborhood leader in the 1990's when he spearheaded the organization of the Town Fork Creek Neighborhood Association and the Cain and Able Block Watch organization; and,

WHEREAS, he was elected President of Mid-Southeast Communities United (MSCU), a seven neighborhood organization consisting of the Town Fork Creek, Vineyard, East Meyer, Sheraton Estates, Mt. Cleveland, Swope Parkway Elemwood, and Blue Hills Neighborhood Associations and is a member of the Kansas City Crime Commission; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Truitt is a World War II disabled veteran, retired letter carrier, and currently an educator at the Genesis Alternative School; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to his leadership contributions, Mr. Truitt, an accomplished jazz musician sharing his talents as a member of The Kings of Rhythm Orchestra, has been inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame in the Kansas City Jazz Museum; and,

WHEREAS, he has composed numerous songs which express a deep sense of pride in the Kansas City community, State of Missouri, and the United States of America; and,

WHEREAS, he has also composed gospel songs, a song for the United States Letter Carriers and most recently, "We Love You Kansas City," which has been recorded by the Wild Women of Kansas City, Sellie & LaTonya, and Sellie & TC; now therefore,
