Body
WHEREAS, the month of May is nationally recognized as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month, a time to honor and celebrate the contributions, achievements, and cultural richness of AAPI communities in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, AAPI communities encompass over 50 ethnic groups and speak over 100 languages, representing a wide range of histories, cultures, and experiences; and,
WHEREAS, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have played a vital role in shaping Jackson County and the greater Kansas City region, contributing to its economic growth, innovation, civic leadership, and cultural enrichment; and,
WHEREAS, AAPI residents in Jackson County have demonstrated strength, resilience, and solidarity, despite facing a long history of exclusion, discrimination, and recent rises in anti-Asian hate and violence; and,
WHEREAS, AAPI entrepreneurs, artists, educators, health care workers, faith leaders, and public servants continue to strengthen our communities through their dedication and service; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature and Jackson County recognize the importance of uplifting AAPI voices and stories, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering equity and inclusion for all residents; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and celebrate the month of May 2025 as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Jackson County, Missouri.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
