RESOLUTION # 14025, February 25, 2002

INTRODUCED BY Scott Burnett, County Legislator


Body
WHEREAS, Andrew E. Shepard, a member of Boy Scout Troop 50 sponsored by Broadway United Methodist Church, has successfully completed all requirements to attain scouting's highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout; and,

WHEREAS, Andrew is a member in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and his tribal name is Son of Stalker of Birds; and,

WHEREAS, Andrew attended Notre Dame de Sion School through 8th grade and is currently a freshman at Rockhurst High School; and,

WHEREAS, he successfully completed all of his Eagle requirements and had his board of reviews at Bartle Scout camp on June 14, 2001; and,

WHEREAS, his Eagle Scout project was the cleanup of the grotto at the Notre Dame de Sion Lower School located at 3828 Locust in Kansas City, Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, the cleanup included removing wild honeysuckle bushes, and weeds, hauling rocks, and mowing grass; and,

WHEREAS, additionally, Andrew planted seven new dogwood trees around the top of the grotto, which, historically, was a watering hole for settlers heading west on the Santa Fe Trail; and,

WHEREAS, Andrew's efforts generated interest in the grotto for students and parents and helped Notre Dame de Sion kick off a total restoration of the grotto; and,

WHEREAS, Andrew has held several leadership positions including troop guide, patrol leader, and assistant senior patrol leader; and,

WHEREAS, in August 2000, he was selected by his troop to attend the Brownsea Training Program, a program designed to further develop the potential of scouts who hold leadership positions in their troops; and,
