Body
WHEREAS, the BoysGrow program is a volunteer-supported and youth-driven program that allows inner city boys to use farming and agriculture to instill pride, identity, discipline, and an understanding of the business world; and,
WHEREAS, participants in the BoysGrow program plant and cultivate crops and then develop a marketing plan to promote and sell the products they grow to local businesses; and,
WHEREAS, the core principles of BoysGrow are commitment to a successful harvest, pride in the work, and respect for co-workers, crops and customers; and,
WHEREAS, BoysGrow was founded in 2010 by John Gordon, Jr., and has graduated its first class, with the 2012 - 2013 class now underway; and,
WHEREAS, the current class recently developed and marketed a healthier alternative to ketchup called Agave Ketchup and the participants also market their own salsa, which is sold in six area grocery stores; and,
WHEREAS, this program has helped these young men to learn dedication and determination as true entrepreneurs; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes BoysGrow for its positive impact on the youth of Jackson County and extends best wishes for the future of the organization.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
