A RESOLUTION commending Michael Christopher Davis for his quick action in waking and alerting home wner John Thompson that his house was on fire, and leading him to safety.

Body
WHEREAS, shortly before 2:00 a.m. on May 16, 1995, John Thompson awoke to a popping sound outside, causing his alarm clock to make a buzzing sound; and,
WHEREAS, noting that the power had not gone out, Mr. Thompson fell back to sleep; and,
WHEREAS, Michael Christopher Davis had been up late that night studying for college exams when hi father told him that he saw fire coming from the house on the street behind him; and,
WHEREAS, unable to run across his back yard because of the high water in a culvert, Mr. Davis quic ly jumped into his truck, drove to Mr. Thompson's house, and rang his doorbell; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson was once again awakened and upon going to the door was told by Mr. Davis th t his house was on fire; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson and Mr. Davis quickly ran into the house and retrieved Mr. Thompson's dog enny, and then went in a second time to get some of Mr. Thompson's personal items; and,
WHEREAS, both men attempted to put out some of the flames with a garden hose but the wind prohibit d them from doing so; and,
WHEREAS, although his house sustained damage in the amount of $200,000, Mr. Thompson feels very fo tunate to be alive and thankful that Mr. Davis found him when he did; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Davis, a 22-year-old Rockhurst College student, lives at home with his parents, Sugar and John Davis; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recogni es and commends Michael Christopher Davis for his quick actions in warning John Thompson of the fi e and leading him to safety.
