Body
WHEREAS, Paul Rutherford, a science teacher at the Summit Technology Academy of the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, recently received the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching; and,
WHEREAS, Congress established an annual presidential award program administered for the White House by the National Science Foundation, which identifies outstanding mathematics and science teachers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U. S. Territories and the U. S. Department of Defense schools; and,
WHEREAS, the recipients of this presidential award, the highest of its kind, are chosen by a panel of esteemed mathematicians, scientists, and educators in conjunction with the White House; and,
WHEREAS, Paul Rutherford is the only 2003 Missouri recipient of the presidential award in the field of science and one of 95 teachers nationwide so recognized; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature commends Paul Rutherford for his commitment to excellence in education, shown by his innovative teaching methods and dedication to his students, and congratulates him as a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
