Body
WHEREAS, Betty Snapp, co-founder and executive director of Sunshine Center School, has retired after many years of providing educational and therapeutic services to children with special needs; and,

WHEREAS, Sunshine Center's comprehensive services include: special education, speech, occupational and physical therapies, nursing care, day care, respite care, a nutrition program, and transportation; and,

WHEREAS, Betty began her career as executive director of the Sunshine Center School in 1975, and officially retired on April 1, 2003; and,

WHEREAS, she earned a B.S. degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Kansas; and,

WHEREAS, Betty remains an active member of the community and participates in many organizations including: Eastern Jackson County Task Force on Block Grants, KC Transportation Authority, Stone Church preschool board member, Independence Chamber of Commerce, and the Junior Service League of Independence; and,

WHEREAS, Betty and her husband Terry have one son and two grandchildren; and,

WHEREAS, in her spare time, Betty enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, reading and gardening; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby commends Betty Snapp for many years of providing comprehensive services to the children of Sunshine Center School and their families, and wishes her well upon her retirement.
