Title
A RESOLUTION congratulating Longview Community College on its selection as the nation's two-year "College of the Year" by Time magazine and The Princeton Review.

Body
WHEREAS, Longview Community College has been recognized by Time magazine and The Princeton Review as its two-year "College of the Year;" and,
WHEREAS, Longview was recognized for its Writing Across The Curriculum (WAC) program that "encourages students to write, think and communicate clearly;" and,
WHEREAS, a panel of experts in the field considered over 100 nominated colleges and universities according to the following criteria:
Is writing embedded throughout the curriculum?
Does it affect every student?
Are faculty given enough support to teach these writing-intensive courses?
Does the campus have a Writing Center where students can go for help and advice?
and,
WHEREAS, Longview's Writing Across The Curriculum program is a program that was initiated back in 1985, as one of the recommendations of the District Task Force on Initiatives Toward Educational Excellence, which was chaired by Dr. Wayne Giles; and,
WHEREAS, Longview has many dedicated faculty (80% of its full and part-time faculty participate) and three dynamic WAC coordinators—Barb Eubank, Diana Grahn, and Mary McMullin-Light— who have helped the program truly achieve excellence; and,
WHEREAS, Longview's president, Fred Grogan, was instrumental in the start-up of the WAC program, hired the coordinators, and has been very supportive of the program ever since; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Longview Community College upon its selection by Time magazine and the Princeton Re...
