Title
A RESOLUTION urging the Missouri General Assembly to enact House Bill 33, which would lower the minimum age for qualification for service as a juror from 21 to 18 years of age.
Intro
RESOLUTION # 11582, January 29, 1997
INTRODUCED BY Lisa White Hardwick, County Legislator
Body
WHEREAS, pursuant to 494.425, RSMo 1994, persons less than 21 years of age are disqualified from service as grand and petit jurors in the State of Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature believes that allowing 18 year olds to serve on juries would increase the available juror pool, thus making it more likely that jury venires assigned to individual cases represent a fair cross-section of the community; and,
WHEREAS, House Bill 33, sponsored by Representative Mary Groves Bland of Jackson County, would, if adopted by the General Assembly and signed into law by the Governor, lower the minimum age for qualification for service as a juror from 21 to 18 years of age; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature urges the Missouri General Assembly to adopt House Bill 33 now pending.
