Body
WHEREAS, MANA de Kansas City, A National Latina Organization, was chartered in 1981 with the focus of developing community leaders who are involved in service, education, and public policy issues important to Latinas and their families; and,
WHEREAS, MANA members are active on boards and commissions throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, raising awareness and empowering Latinas in our community and providing opportunities for Latinas to enhance their leadership skills through volunteer service; and,
WHEREAS, the MANA National Organization was founded in 1974 and has grown to become the largest national pan-Latina membership organization with twenty-six chapters throughout the United States; and,
WHEREAS, MANA sponsors the Hermanitas Program, which is designed to encourage Hispanic adolescent girls to stay in school and pursue high academic goals; and,
WHEREAS, MANA has a history of recognizing Latina contributions in the community, presenting the Community Service Award for the past fifteen years, and recognizing community service achievement through Moda Latina, MANA's major fundraiser for scholarships and leadership programs; and,
WHEREAS, MANA also hosts a yearly Christmas Party for seniors at Posada del Sol Senior Living Center and collaborates with numerous organizations on Latino issues; and,
WHEREAS, MANA de Kansas City will celebrate this milestone anniversary with a banquet dinner and dance to be held October 1, 2011; now therefore,
