RESOLUTION NO. 22290, June 1, 2026
INTRODUCED BY Manuel Abarca IV and Donna Peyton, County Legislators
Body
WHEREAS, Unity Day is a powerful and uplifting event honoring families who have worked tirelessly toward successful reunification after their children were placed in foster care; and,
WHEREAS, Unity Day is more than a celebration, it is a testament to resilience, healing, restoration, and the strength of families and community support; and,
WHEREAS, this special gathering will recognize parents, children, family, caregivers, advocates, and community partners who have walked the challenging journey toward reunification and emerged stronger together; and,
WHEREAS, celebrating parents who have navigated court-mandated programs to overcome challenges like substance abuse, homelessness, or severe financial hardships; and,
WHEREAS, providing a festive atmosphere with food (like hot dogs and treats), activities (like balloon animals and face painting), and connections to community resources (like library services); and,
WHEREAS, demonstrating that the family court system is designed to help keep families safely together rather than tear them apart, while offering hope to other parents currently in the court system; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature recognizes Unity Day Event Celebration.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
