Body
WHEREAS, Mary Agnes Onka has served the Collection Department for the past 30 years and will be celebrating her 70th birthday on November 26, 2002; and,

WHEREAS, Mary was born in Sugar Creek, Missouri, on November 26, 1932, to John B Povala and Agnes Mary Povala, and has one sister, Teresa Joan Kolich, and a host of relatives and friends in Sugar Creek; and,

WHEREAS, in 1972, Mary began her career in the Collection Department as a clerk, and served in various positions within the department, having been promoted to supervisor in 1993; and,

WHEREAS, she officially retired from full-time employment with Collection on May 27, 1999, and currently works part-time in the department with her friends and co-workers; and,


WHEREAS, Mary married John J. Onka, now deceased, on September 29, 1951, and travelled the country with him while he served in the United States Coast Guard, including a tour in one of their favorite places, New Your's Staten Island; and,

WHEREAS, John and Mary settled back in Sugar Creek, Missouri in 1972, in the home that they built before traveling the country, where Mary still lives; and,

WHEREAS, Mary and John had four children, Jacalyn Onka Johnson, John Joseph Onka, III, James Michael Onka, Jane Onka Vaughn, and three grandchildren, Jamie Machelle Onka and Nika Marie Onka of Sugar Creek, and Francine Onka Vaughn of Kansas City; and,

WHEREAS, Mary is Catholic and has been involved in numerous community and church events; and,

WHEREAS, Mary laughs when she recalls that she initially intended to work for 2 years in Collection but has now spent 30 years and counting;...
