Body
WHEREAS, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church of Kansas City, Missouri was organized on June 25, 1922, by the Rev. John W. Lee as the first African American Church in Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, the original church was established at 2122 Vine Street, but later relocated to property purchased at 2910 Victor in Kansas City, where it continues to serve its community today; and,
WHEREAS, during the past 90 years programs in support of the community grew, including bible study, Sunday School, a day care program, reading and math tutors, outreach services at Niles Home for Children, Boy and Girl Scouting programs, and a food and clothing pantry; and,
WHEREAS, these programs support the church's community outreach and social concerns and became vital in the life of the church and its community; and,
WHEREAS, the congregation continues to be a missionary presence within the community, with new outreach programs with reStart, Inc., the Division of Family Services Christmas adoptions, Thanksgiving food baskets, and collaboration with the Santa Fe Neighborhood Association's annual Easter Egg Hunt and Community Garden; and,
WHEREAS, as the first African American church in Kansas City, the congregation of St. Paul's Presbyterian continues to hold God's unchanging hand; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates St. Paul's Presbyterian Church on the occasion of its 90th anniversary and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in the future.
