Body
WHEREAS, the Grain Valley High School Eagles football team, Head Coach Forrest Rovello, Offensive Coordinator, Marc Cleveland, Defensive Coordinator, Mark Amos and other staff are to be congratulated for reaching the 2001 Class 2A State semifinals; and,

WHEREAS, although the team did not win the state championship, it did have the next best thing - the satisfaction toward the end of the season of upsetting the defending state champion, St. Pius Warriors, which had won the coveted state championship three out of the last four years; and,

WHEREAS, during his nine years as head coach of the Grain Valley football team, Coach Rovello and his staff have led the team to seven consecutive Show Me West Conference Football Championships and five state playoff appearances, with an overall record of 68 wins, 32 losses; and,

WHEREAS, Coach Rovello was named the Independence Examiner Coach of the Year in 1995, 1996, and 2001; and,
WHEREAS, Karl Zinke, Sports Editor for The Examiner pointed out that the 2001 team lost 19 graduating seniors from the previous year and had a first-year quarterback and only three starters returning for the season, but managed to come within one win of the state championship game; and,

WHEREAS, as Mr. Zinke stated in his column, "That, in fact, is the essence of being a good coach in high school football. Taking what parts you have, melding them together to make a winning team and instilling the confidence in them so they can take themselves that far;" and,

WHEREAS, Danny Pagel, the senior quarterback said in and interview after losing to Warsaw in the semifinals, "It was a great season th...
