Body
WHEREAS, at its annual gala held at Starlight Theatre on September 30, 2000 the Truman Heartland Foundation presented its prestigious Jackson County Humanitarian of the Year Award to Chuck and Colleen Foudree of Lee's Summit; and,

WHEREAS, this award honors those whose philanthropy affects people in more than one city; and,

WHEREAS, much of the Foudrees' charitable work has been in Independence, where they lived from 1966 to 1987; and,

WHEREAS, they began their community involvement with the Independence Jaycees in the late 1960's, and eventually became involved with the Chamber of Commerce, the Independence YMCA, and the Junior Service League of Independence where Colleen has held numerous positions since 1981; and,

WHEREAS, in 1992 Colleen started volunteering for Hope House, an Independence-based shelter for battered women and children, and later served as board chair from 1994-96 and co-chair for a 1998 endowment campaign that raised more than $1 million; and,

WHEREAS, Colleen was also this year's co-chair of Hope House's major annual fund raiser, "Hope and All that Jazz," which raised $170,000; and,

WHEREAS, the Foudrees both have long associations with the Jackson County Historical Society and the Truman Library; and,

WHEREAS, Colleen joined the historical society's board this year and was co-chair of the library's fund-raising gala last year; and,

WHEREAS, Chuck, who is also a member of the library board and the treasurer of its institute, has a professional background as a certified public accountant. Chuck was also a chief financial officer of Harmon Industries, Inc., of Blue Springs, which ha...
