Body
WHEREAS, Della Lamb Community Services Center has been awarded a grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the amount of $441,200.00, to be used in connection with its NuStart Education program; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of the program is to provide opportunities to students in the Kansas City area to obtain a GED certificate so that they can improve their literacy level and learn skills and qualities needed to become better employees and citizens; and,
WHEREAS, additionally, the NuStart Education program incorporates a drug education/positive life skills component with direct referrals to counseling and other drug treatment alternatives; and,
WHEREAS, Della Lamb has requested local matching funds from the Anti-Drug Sales Tax Grant Match account in the amount of $35,000.00 for this program; and,
WHEREAS, the Prosecuting Attorney has reviewed this proposal and recommends the expenditure of these funds; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Executive is hereby authorized to enter into an agreement, a copy of which is attached and incorporated herein by reference, with Della Lamb Community Services Center for its NuStart Education program; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of the Department of Finance be and hereby is authorized to make all payments, including final payment on the Agreement.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
