Body
WHEREAS, at its fourth annual awards dinner on November 13, the AIDS Council and the AIDS Service Foundation will honor their Ribbon of Hope award recipient; and,

WHEREAS, Ribbon of Hope awards are presented to individuals or institutions that have been effective and zealous AIDS advocates; and,

WHEREAS, this year's deserving recipient of the Marion Kreamer Ribbon of Hope award is County Counselor Sandy Schermerhorn; and,

WHEREAS, in the late 1980's, Sandy's passionate crusade in the fight against AIDS began when she hosted a Night of 100 Stars party sponsored by the Good Samaritan Project, at which her efforts resulted in raising $3,500 towards expanding HIV/AIDS services to more metropolitan-area residents; and,

WHEREAS, Sandy has continued her own annual fund-raising parties over the last seven years which have produced a total of $140,000 towards this worthy cause; and,

WHEREAS, fund-raising is a commitment Sandy has undertaken to make her vision of helping every HIV-infected person in need of assistance a reality; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to her fund-raising events, Sandy served as President of the Good Samaritan Project for two years and served on its Board for six years; and,

WHEREAS, she is a founding member and current Vice President of the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City, an organization which raises funds to assist numerous AIDS service organizations; and,

WHEREAS, Sandy has served as the Jackson County Counselor since 1995, and was previously with the law firm of Spencer Fane Britt & Browne for 22 years where she was a partner, specializing in business...
