Body
WHEREAS, the City of Buckner is contemplating the development of a bicycle trail along the east side of Buckner-Tarsney Road from the stoplight intersection of Highway 24 in the City of Buckner and thence northward to historic Fort Osage in Sibley, Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, the upcoming development of the Fort Osage Education Center will attract more visitors to the area and increase the need for a more extensively developed bicycle trail to accommodate the growing needs of the community; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, development of the trail will provide safer access to Heisler Park and nearby swimming pool facilities; and,
WHEREAS, providing trail ingress for the additional tourists will also increase the potential number of consumers and boost commercial development and business interests in the area; and,
WHEREAS, a bicycle trail will promote health and wellness within Jackson County by providing another opportunity for recreational activity; and,
WHEREAS, there may be an opportunity for funding of the bicycle trail through the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) for which the President of the Buckner Chamber of Commerce has requested community support; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Legislature expresses its support for the development of a bicycle trail between Buckner and Sibley.
