Body
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the public health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County that every possible measure be taken to ensure that those sex offenders required by Missouri law to register as such with the Sheriff, actually do so; and

WHEREAS, under these circumstances, the Legislature believes it appropriate that an offender's failure to so register, when required, be prosecutable at the County level in addition to the State level, to give law enforcement officials the full range of prosecution and punishment options; now therefore

BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Enacting Clause.
Section 5529., Jackson County Code, 1984, is hereby enacted, to read as follows:
5529. Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
A person commits the offense of failing to register as a sex offender when the person is required to register under sections 589.400 to 589.425 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri and fails to comply with any requirement of sections 589.400 to 589.425.
Section B. Penalty Provision.
Any person who violates section 5529. of this Ordinance shall, upon conviction, be punishable pursuant to section 5520., Jackson County Code, 1984.


Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its signature by the County Executive.
