Body
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District recently received the 2001 National Program of Excellence in Business Award presented by the Association for Career and Technical Education; and,

WHEREAS, the annual award recognizes an exemplary business program from just one secondary or post secondary school from throughout the state of Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, this award recognition includes a $1,000.00 award from the Glencoe/McGraw Hill Company which will be divided between the business departments at Lee's Summit High School and Lee's Summit North High School; and,

WHEREAS, as part of the award, the Lee's Summit R-7 Business Department was highlighted at the December conference of the Association for Career and Technical Education in New Orleans, Louisiana; and,

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 Business Department serves approximately 4,300 students in ninth through twelfth grades at both schools; and

WHEREAS, during the 2001-2002 school year, more than 60 percent of the schools' students are enrolled in at least one business course; and,

WHEREAS, the business department's philosophy is to provide students with exposure, instruction, and opportunities for development of lifetime skills, which ensure transition to workplace and college pursuits; and,

WHEREAS, the business department works with a combined advisory committee, formed in 1992, known as the R-7 Work Force Development Council; and,

WHEREAS, a high percentage of business students are either employed in related fields or pursuing post-secondary education in a related field of study; and,
