Body
WHEREAS, during the 1940s, the Missouri general assembly devised a plan to recognize rural school districts into new districts in order to receive a more equitable distribution of state school funds; and,
WHEREAS, in 1949, 18 rural school districts were consolidated to become what is now known as the Lee's Summit R-7 School District; and,
WHEREAS, this reorganization included the former Lee's Summit, Greenwood, Hazel Dell, White Cloud, Woodland, Tarsney, Mason, Center Point, Cyclone, Maple Grove, High Mound, Cedar Hill, Tennison, Wright, Colburn, Lone Oak, Hazel Grove, and Oakland districts; and,
WHEREAS, since the time of reorganization, the district has doubled in size, now serving 14,000 students, with 13 elementary schools with two more to open within two years, two junior highs with a third to be opened in 2000, and the possibility of a third high school in the near future; and,
WHEREAS, the district has received many awards and is recognized for its excellence in education; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Lee's Summit R-7 School District upon its fiftieth anniversary.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
