and Eugene Standifer, Jr., County Legislators


Body
WHEREAS, Jackson County enjoys a unique pre-history and history of national significance; and,

WHEREAS, the County has many cultural resources -- buildings, structures, objects, sites, districts, and scenic and cultural landscapes that embody a sense of time and place unique to the County and exemplify and reflect the cultural, social, economic, political, architectural, engineering and/or archaeological history of the nation, the State of Missouri, and the County; and,

WHEREAS, the County owns and manages significant architectural, archaeological, historic, and cultural resources, a large number of which are located in the County's extensive park system, as well as numerous cultural landscapes, buildings, and sites of historic significance, including the Independence Square Courthouse listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the historic 1933-1934 Kansas City, Missouri Courthouse; and,

WHEREAS, these resources merit and require consistent oversight and protection; and,

WHEREAS, movements and shifts of population, normal access and use by the public, and the changes in residential, commercial, recreational, and other public uses may threaten areas, landscapes, places, buildings, structures, sites, works of art, and other objects having special historic, community, architectural, archaeological, or aesthetic importance, interest, or value and whose preservation an...
