A RESOLUTION recognizing the 118th annual session of the National Baptist Convention as it holds its 1998 annual meeting in Kansas City.

RESOLUTION # 12335, September 8, 1998

INTRODUCED BY Carl Bussey, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, the National Baptist Convention, the largest African-American organization in the world, represents 8.5 million people and 33,000 churches; and,

WHEREAS, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Henry J. Lyons, president of the Convention, a new era is transpiring in the organization's history; and,

WHEREAS, a strong emphasis is being placed on philosophical, spiritual, economic, political social, and educational values; and,

WHEREAS, the week of September 6-11 will be full of activities and meetings beginning with a kick-off breakfast at Morning Star Baptist Church and ending with a red and white night of evangelism; and,

WHEREAS, other events during the week will include worship services, banquets, educational sessions, opening ceremonies, musicals, and other activities; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes the 118th annual session of the National Baptist Convention as it holds its 1998 annual meeting in Kansas City.
Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
