Body
WHEREAS, the Van Horn soccer program began in 2008, shortly after Van Horn joined the
Independence School District, coached by Chris Corrie who is now Van Horn's Activity Director; and,
WHEREAS, Van Horn soccer has been led by Head Coach Jesus Rodriguez for eleven seasons where he has guided his teams to eight conference titles, seven district titles, four State semi-finals, and now a State Championship; and,
WHEREAS, since 2018, the Van Horn soccer program has reached the State finals four times, earning third place once and fourth place twice, making soccer a cornerstone of school and community pride; and,
WHEREAS, the 2025 team finished with an outstanding 25 -1 record, capping off the season with a 4-2 victory over Fort Zumwalt East in the state championship on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in front of an incredible crowd from Independence; and,
WHEREAS, standout players this season include Senior Midfielder Adrian Flores, Junior Midfielder Andrew Barron, Senior Goalkeeper Kester Phillips, Senior Forward Abdulahi Islow, Senior Winger Jan Carlo Pe?a S?nchez, and Senior Defender Mlabo Asukulu; and,
WHEREAS, founded in 1953 as part of the Kansas City School District, this marks the first state championship in school history; a milestone 71 years in the making; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature takes great pride in congratulating the 2025 Van Horn Falcons boys' soccer team on winning the Class III Missouri State
Championship.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
