A RESOLUTION honoring the Hill family on the occasion of the erection of a commemorative sign at the County's Hill Park in Independence.

RESOLUTION # 10769, April 10, 1995 INTRODUCED BY Fred Arbanas, County Legislator
Body
WHEREAS, the County's Hill Park in Independence, which includes a small family cemetery, was originally part of a 300-acre farm which Adam Hill bought in 1833; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Hill, a blacksmith, manufactured plows and cast ironware, repaired wagons, and bred horses and operated a race track to test their endurance, until his business ceased upon the outbreak of the Civil War; and,

WHEREAS, in the 1850's the first burials were made in the family cemetery, which is now the final resting place of Adam Hilland his wife Ann Wood Moberly Hill, two of their five children, and numerous grandchildren and other family members; and,

WHEREAS, the modern descendants of the Hill family have graciously offered to donate a sign to be erected at Hill Park to commemorate the role of the pioneering Hill family in the settlement and development of Jackson County; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature honors the Hill family and thanks them for their generous donation of a commemorative sign at Hill Park.
Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
