Body

WHEREAS, the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests were developed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to carry out the assessment provision of the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993, which requires the State Board of Education to assess student academic performance in a number of areas, including problem solving, analytical ability, evaluation, creativity, and application ability; and,

WHEREAS, student performance on MAP tests is rated on a five-step scale: Advanced being the highest level, followed by Proficient, Nearing Proficient, Progressing, and Step 1, the lowest; and,

WHEREAS, test results are reported to DESE which has for the second time prepared a "Top 10 Schools" report; and,

WHEREAS, the "Top 10 Schools" report consists of 33 separate lists ranking schools' performance in six subject areas: Mathematics, Communication Arts, Science, Social Studies, Health/Physical Education, and Fine Arts; and,

WHEREAS, schools earn a spot on one or more of the Top 10 lists based on the percentage of students scoring at the Advanced or Proficient levels; and,

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District had a total of 14 schools listed on 33 separate "Top 10 Schools" lists, with 4 schools listed on two Top 10 lists; and,

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit schools making the Top 10 were, Lee's Summit High, Lee's Summit North (two lists), Campbell Junior High, Cedar Creek Elementary (two lists), Hazel Grove Elementary (two lists), Highland Park Elementary, Mason Elementary, Pleasant Lea Elementary (on two lists), Underwood Elementary, and Westview...
