WHEREAS, former Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Albert Riederer recently celebrated his retirement from the practice of law; and,
WHEREAS, during his tenure as Prosecuting Attorney from 1980 to 1992, Albert was recognized for establishing innovative programs in rape prosecution, family support enforcement, and child abuse prosecution, and for the United States' first anti-drug program, funded from a dedicated sales tax, the COMBAT program; and,
WHEREAS, prior to his election as Prosecuting Attorney, Albert was elected to the First District at-large seat on the Legislature in 1978, where he served as Chairman and advocated for the building of the new jail and the introduction of 911 services; and,
WHEREAS, Albert was an attorney in private practice for many years and served as a judge on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, from 1997 to 1999; and,
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the County demonstrate its esteem and gratitude to Albert for his years of dedicated service to issues of justice, law, and to the citizens of the Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that in honor of Albert Riederer's commitment to public service and dedication to the common good, the County buildings located at 1305 Locust and 1315 Locust in Kansas City, MO, should be and hereby are renamed as the "Albert Riederer Community Justice Complex."
