Body
WHEREAS, Beth Vernon, an eighth grade earth science teacher at Brittany Hill Middle School in the Blue Springs School District, was honored June 12 - 14, 2013, when she was inducted into the National Teacher's Hall of Fame; and,

WHEREAS, the National Teacher's Hall of Fame was founded in Emporia, Kansas, in 1989 to honor teachers and the teaching profession; and,

WHEREAS, Beth Vernon is one of only three teachers from Missouri to attain this honor in the twenty-two years since the award was established; and,

WHEREAS, known for innovation in the classroom, Beth has earned the moniker "the singing science teacher" for her songs that she writes and performs on her guitar to help students retain information; and,

WHEREAS, Beth used her creativity to develop two CDs for using music in the classroom, Beth's Rock Collection - Songs of Science for Our Times and Beth's Rock Collection - Songs for the Heart and Mind; and,

WHEREAS, Beth has been teaching for twenty-eight years, including twenty-one in the Blue Springs School District; and,

WHEREAS, Beth was a Disney American Teacher Award winner in 2000 and was selected for the Missouri STARR Teacher program, an extensive master teacher development program; and,

WHEREAS, Beth believes in the philosophy that thinking should be valued and visible, that effort should be reinforced, and questions should drive learning; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Beth Vernon on the occasion of her receiving the prestigious honor of induction into the National Teacher's Hall of...
