Body
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit High School drama students recently swept the major theater awards at the annual Missouri State Speech and Theatre Contest held on April 19 and 20 at the University of Missouri-Columbia; and,

WHEREAS, the theater department's performance of the play "Cut," by playwright Ed Monk was the top one-act play in the Kansas City District competition in March, which qualified the performance for the state contest; and,

WHEREAS, this marks the first time the school has won the state one-act play contest since 1983; and,

WHEREAS, during the state contest, two sections of seven plays each competed, with Lee's Summit High School winning its section on April 19, and Excelsior Springs winning the other section; and,

WHEREAS, the two schools performed their plays again on April 20, with all three judges choosing Lee's Summit High School as the state champion; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to the play winning first place in state, Lee's Summit High School students won all four acting awards at the state-wide tournament; and,

WHEREAS, freshman Zac Walker won best actor and Kelly Jo Blake, a sophomore, won best actress; and,

WHEREAS, awards for best supporting actor and best supporting actress went to sophomore Chris Plante and Carrie Roland, a senior; and,

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit High School drama cast members included: Bobby Sandlin, Stephen Edwards, Sami Dane, Megan Shipman, Nathan Martin, Derek Roth, Matt Bostick, Bryan Slusher, Tara Smith, Alanna Rye, Michelle Gutierrez, Kirstin Klaus, along with crew chiefs assistant directors Derek Roth, Cindy Van Bebber, and Chelsea Bilyeu; and,
