Body
WHEREAS, on July 18, 1998, the United States Navy will commission its newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Harry S. Truman CVN 75; and,
WHEREAS, as the ship honors Missouri's only president, Missourians have undertaken to raise funds to pay for permanent amenities to serve the ship's crew, for which United States Department of Defense funds may not be legally expended; and,
WHEREAS, among these amenities are the ship's china and crystal, personal computers for the crew, books for the ship's library, and workout equipment for the gymnasium; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature believes it is appropriate to support this cause in the amount of $10,000 toward the cost of the Harry S. Truman's ship's china which shall ultimately become the property of the United States government; and,
WHEREAS, the County and the USS Harry S. Truman CVN 75 Foundation, Inc. desire to enter into an agreement for this purpose, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the attched agreement is hereby approved and that the County Executive is authorized to execute the agreement on behalf of the County; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of the Department of Finance is authorized to make all payments, including final payment on the agreement...Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
