Body
WHEREAS, Freda "Ama" Idun, a senior at Lee's Summit High School, was named a semifinalist in the 50th Annual National Achievement Scholarship competition; and,
WHEREAS, the National Achievement Program, conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is a privately financed academic competition that operates without government assistance; and,
WHEREAS, Ama is a member of the National Honor Society, Club 121, Tiger Mentoring, National Art Honor Society, Missouri Fine Arts Academy, Missouri Scholars Academy, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Youth Leadership Committee, the A+ Program, and a participant on the track and field team and in the National Fine Arts Festival; and,
WHEREAS, the National Achievement Program Award was initiated in 1964 to recognize academically promising black students and to provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding program participants; and,
WHEREAS, all Achievement Scholar awardees will be selected from the finalist group on the basis of their abilities, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies; and,
WHEREAS, Ama's parents, Emmanuel and Phyllis Idun, are justifiably proud of their daughter; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Freda "Ama" Idun upon her recognition as a National Achievement Scholarship semifinalist, and extends best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
