RESOLUTION 13811, August 27, 2001

Body
WHEREAS, Amy Wright, a seventh grader at Summit Lakes Junior High School was recently named to the Duke University 2000-2001 Talent Identification Program, which honors students for their Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) achievement tests scores; and,

WHEREAS, Duke University conducts an annual talent search for academically-gifted seventh grade students who score at or better than 50 percent of college-bound high school seniors on achievement tests; and,

WHEREAS, students who score in the 95th percentile or better on at least one subtest of a recent standardized test, such as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills or the Stanford Nine Achievement Test, are given an opportunity to take either the SAT or the ACT; and,

WHEREAS, these tests are college entrance exams and are generally taken by juniors and seniors in high school; and,

WHEREAS, Amy scored 24 on the ACT and scored higher in the math and verbal sections of these achievement tests than 90 percent of college-bound high school seniors; and,

WHEREAS, she earned Grand Recognition Honors and was invited to attend the Grand Recognition ceremony at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, on May 21, 2001; and,

WHEREAS, Amy plays the flute in the youth orchestra at her church and is very active in church youth group activities; and,

WHEREAS, she has participated in various piano competitions and received superior ratings in the Kansas City Music Teachers Association Fall Festival, the Achievement Audition, and the National Piano Guild Audition, and also performed in the Multi-Piano Concert; and,
