Body
WHEREAS, Northwest Community Development Corporation's Englewood/Maywood Weed and Seed initiative will focus on the Englewood and Maywood neighborhoods in Independence, Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, the initiative is designed as a comprehensive community strategy for addressing and preventing crime and illicit drug usage by coordinating government, nonprofit, and community resources and focusing on specific strategies and target populations; and,
WHEREAS, those target populations will include prisoner reentry, by providing probationers/parolees with job skills and other services youth programming, by offering drug prevention programs and neighborhood organization, by developing block watch and neighborhood organizations in order to rebuild active, effective neighborhoods; and,
WHEREAS, this program is supported by a grant from the United States Department of Justice in the amount of $175,000.00; and,
WHEREAS, the Prosecuting Attorney has recommended Anti-Drug Sales Tax funds in the amount of $25,000.00 to provide a portion of a required local match to this grant; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Executive be and hereby is authorized to execute a Cooperative Agreement, in a form to be approved by the County Counselor, with NorthWest Communities Development Corporation Englewood/Maywood Weed and Seed Initiative, at a cost to the County not to exceed $25,000.00; and,
