Body
WHEREAS, the Northeast High School Alumni Association was formed in 1990 out of the efforts to raise funds to purchase plaques to honor two coaches from the high school, E.A. Markey and Reeves Peters; and,
WHEREAS, the Alumni Association developed two major goals, to help Northeast students and to preserve the past by empowering the future; and,
WHEREAS, since that beginning, the Northeast High School Alumni Association has grown to be an active organization made up of business owners, educators, physicians, and civic leaders who have supported the student body with scholarships and opportunities to achieve their post high school goals; and,
WHEREAS, each week, alumni members spend the day with students by volunteering in the Lyal Viers Alumni Room, providing an oral history of the high school and working to inspire the students to achieve their dreams; and,
WHEREAS, since its inception, the alumni association has raised over $400,000 in scholarships for more than 300 students; and,
WHEREAS, the Northeast High School Alumni Association continues to support the high school, providing financial assistance for many school projects when district funding is limited; and,
WHEREAS, as the high school nears its 100th anniversary, the caring members of the alumni association will continue to encourage the students of Northeast High School to be part of the legacy they have established; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the Northeast High School Alumni Association for its support and encouragement to the students of the ...
