Body
WHEREAS, People magazine recently honored Mary Guthrie of Lee's Summit as a "Local Hero," in its August 7 edition; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Guthrie was honored for her 29 years of service to the children and families of her community; and,
WHEREAS, since 1994, Ms. Guthrie has served as director of Giant Step Special Needs Day Program in Lee's Summit, a program which she founded; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of Giant Step is to give every child the opportunity to reach his or her maximum potential, through quality care, education, positive reinforcement, commitment, and love, all in a natural environment; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Guthrie has a daughter, Mickey, and a son, Allen; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Mary Guthrie of Lee's Summit upon her selection by People magazine as a "Local Hero."

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
