Body
WHEREAS, on July 17 through July 21, 2008, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will hold its 102nd Anniversary Convention in Kansas City; and,

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha was the first intercollegiate greek-letter fraternity in the United States established for men of African-American descent; and,

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha has as its mission to develop leaders and promote brotherhood and academic excellence, all while providing service and advocacy for the communities; and,

WHEREAS, today this organization consists of an ethnically diverse group of college-educated men, which supports programs including "Go to High School Go to College," Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Project Alpha with the March of Dimes, and the Boy Scouts of America; and,

WHEREAS, local fraternity members include G. Lawrence Blankinship, Jr., Bertram Caruthers, Jr., Emanuel Cleaver, II, Randall Ferguson, Jr., Leonard Graham, Wallace S. Hartsfield, Sr., and Elmer Jackson, Jr; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and congratulates this organization on its 102nd Anniversary.


Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
