Body
WHEREAS, for the past 21 years, the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, in conjunction with the local business community, has sponsored the Black Achievers in Business and Industry awards program; and,
WHEREAS, the program recognizes African-American executives and managers who make significant contributions to the community and are successful in their respective fields; and,
WHEREAS, the Black Achievers are selected on the basis of corporate contribution, community contribution, education, significant accomplishments, and awards; and,
WHEREAS, in connection with this program, twelve college students will also receive scholarships and six high school students will be selected for mentorships in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and,
WHEREAS, a dinner is to be held on January 15, 1997, during the Martin Luther King Week Celebration to honor these individuals; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the Black Achievers in Business and Industry awards program for its efforts in honoring outstanding African-American executives and managers...Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
