Body

WHEREAS, Brittany Rymer, a Junior at Lee's Summit West High School, is one of eighty students chosen from around the world to spend three weeks studying in the prestigious summer school program at St. Hugh's College at Oxford University in England; and,

WHEREAS, to be selected for this program, students sent in an application, wrote an essay and had to receive a recommendation from a teacher; and,

WHEREAS, the students will attend various lectures by Oxford professors, complete strict course work, write several research papers and have weekly tutorial sessions covering a specific academic discipline; and,

WHEREAS, Brittany is considering studying law after high school, and views the summer school program as an opportunity to get a feel for what law school may be like; and,

WHEREAS, Brittany is ranked number one in her class of 351 students, has a GPA of 4.45, is an International Baccalaureate Candidate and is treasurer of the varsity debate; squad and,

WHEREAS, Brittany is also involved in the Lake Winnebago Water Ski Club, the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics, a member of the Math Club, and serves on the Prom Committee; and,

WHEREAS, Brittany is involved in an activist group called Clapham Sect Phase 2 whose mission is to bring awareness to the student body about slave trading and products being manufactured by slaves; and,

WHEREAS, Brittany is the daughter of proud parents, David and Betsi; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and congratulates Brittany Rymer on her acceptance into the prestigious ...
