Body
WHEREAS, the County-owned hospital located on Lee's Summit Road in southeastern Kansas City has been known as "Truman Medical Center - East," since 1973 when the County turned over the operation of the hospital to Truman Medical Center, Inc. (TMC); and,
WHEREAS, since that time, TMC has endeavored to develop the facility into an outstanding community hospital, long-term care facility, and center of family medicine; and,
WHEREAS, in doing so, TMC has also attempted to build the financial strength of the hospital while maintaining its dedication to the low-income and uninsured citizens of the County; and,
WHEREAS, to do this, TMC is working to attract a more diverse patient base by expanding its contracts with insurance carriers to bring their patients to the hospital; and,
WHEREAS, TMC believes that changing the name of the hospital to "Truman Medical Center - Lakewood" will support its image as a hospital which can address the medical needs of low-income patients as well as the larger community; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby approves the changing of the name of "Truman Medical Center - East" to "Truman Medical Center - Lakewood."

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
