Body
WHEREAS, beginning in May of 1995, the Public Works Department established a "bridge maintenance crew" to perform maintenance of bridges and culverts in Jackson County; and,

WHEREAS, prior to this time, maintenance to bridges and culverts had been neglected due to a shortage of funds and personnel; and,

WHEREAS, because funds were made available in 1995, additional employees were hired to staff the bridge maintenance crew, which has since completed a number of projects; and,

WHEREAS, those projects include:
1. Eight large structures (concrete boxes) and 34 culverts ranging from 15" to 36";

2. Fabrication of sewage system and building of a sewage lagoon for the Sheriff's Department;

3. Deck replacement for Ripperger Road Bridge;

4. Removal of a bailey bridge from R. D. Mize Road to No. 2 Quarry and then to Kenneth Road for Kansas City;

5. Disassembling of the boiler at the Vehicle Service Center and reinstalling for annual inspection;

6. Assisting in normal snow removal operations;

7. Maintenance and repairs made for the first time ever to approximately 30 bridges in cooperation with a state bridge inspection program, performed every two years, of all structures greater than 20 feet in length;

8. Assisting the construction crew with the annual road program;

9. Construction of a levee at Cogswell Road; and,

10. Televised storm drain and made necessary repairs on Lazy Branch Street in Salem East

now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the Public Works Department and its brid...
