Body
WHEREAS, the state of Missouri is working on an extension of the Missouri KATY Trail State Park from Windsor, Missouri, to Pleasant Hill, Missouri, alongside the track owned by Ameren UE; and,

WHEREAS, local officials, the business community, and the public have continued to express support to connect the Kansas City metropolitan area with the Missouri KATY Trail State Park for over a decade; and,

WHEREAS, the old Rock Island Railroad corridor from Pleasant Hill to Kansas City near the Truman Sports Complex offers the best opportunity to connect the Missouri KATY Trail State Park to the heart of the Kansas City metropolitan area; and,

WHEREAS, the old Rock Island Railroad corridor has been identified in local and regional plans as an important alternative transportation corridor for non-motorized and public transit purposes; and,

WHEREAS, Union Pacific, as the current owner of the old Rock Island Railroad corridor from Pleasant Hill to Kansas City (Leeds Junction) has expressed a willingness to negotiate access to the corridor with the cities of Lee's Summit and Raytown; and,

WHEREAS, representatives from the cities of Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Greenwood, and Pleasant Hill, and from Jackson and Cass counties, have agreed to form a Kansas City Area Rock Island Corridor Coalition (Corridor to the KATY); and,

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Area Rock Island Corridor Coalition desires to approach Union Pacific Railroad to negotiate on behalf of the interested cities and counties for the protection of the corridor for trial and future transit use; now therefore,
